What is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

Search engine marketing is a type of digital/Internet marketing that helps to promote the websites by increasing the visibility in Search Engine Result Pages (SERP) through paid advertising. Search engine marketing is incorporated with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) that adjusts and rewrites the website content and site architecture to get a higher ranking when user search the keywords on the search engines.  

Here are 3 major types of Search Engine Marketing:
  • Paid Search
  • Organic Search
  • Local Search

Paid Search:

This is one of the paid program to promote the websites using Google AdWords, Bing, Yahoo and other similar programs available from the various search engines. The Paid search create an environment to the promoter/advertisers to control the search placements and will allow to see the results in short time.

Paid search offers the position of the ad is purely based on willingness to pay per click. The platform connects with various websites relevant to the promoter/advertisers content to get more traffic. The Paid search platforms are always review the bids along with the keywords and suggest to optimize the ad groups to get more relevant traffic to the websites.

Organic Search:

Organic search is also called as natural search or search with free of cost. The organic search is based on the quality of the content posted on the website and the relevant keywords used as per the search algorithms. The search engine crawlers will crawl the websites and index them in to the relevant categories. The search engines will call the websites based the user’s keyword search and through this way the website gets the traffic.

Organic search results will appear usually from 4th listing and also these results are considered as most people recognized as being the most trusted results.

Local Search:

Local search appears when the users search from the local areas. This will create high level of conversions as the users search the services available from their local areas. You may have noticed that when the user search for local business on the search engines like electrician, plumbing, dentist, etc. they will get relevant results from their areas.

Local search works similarly organic search because these listing are free in all the search engines. It is important to keep in mind that the local search is more about ranking the entire website whereas the organic search helps to rank the individual pages on the search engines.
